Megaware KeelGuard developed the industry's first patented, do-it-yourself keel protector in 1992 and has been providing boat owners with the highest quality protection products ever since.
Save your boat or watercraft from grinding sand, abrasive rocks and concrete ramps. Each product comes with Easy Instructions, and No Special Tools are required. You can Do It Yourself or have your dealer install it for you.
The Megaware KeelGuard® is a very simple product to install; however, the following instructions must be strictly followed. Any short cuts or missed steps will jeopardize and compromise the full bonding capabilities of the 3M® adhesive. For best results the KeelGuard should be installed at an ambient temperature of 60º or above.
Typically, the Megaware KeelGuard® is mounted 4 to 6 inches above the waterline on the bow, ending 2 to 3 feet or more beyond the lowest point of the Keel. If protection is required above the Boweye, a separate Bow Guard is available in 1ft to 3ft lengths. For watercraft*, begin the KeelGuard approximately 1 inch below the bow hook, running the length of the keel, and ending 4 to 6 inches forward of the pump intake.
Note: If your trailer is designed with the weight of the boat resting on the rollers or a support beam along the keel, we do not recommend installing a keel protector. If the rollers can be lowered or the side bunks raised to clear the rollers, the adhesive bond will not be compromised. The Megaware KeelGuard® may not be suitable for some boats with raised, reinforced or squared off rib/keel designs. Pontoons and catamaran type hulls can be very challenging to attach a keel protector to. Complex curves with severe contours, steps, or angles can make it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to achieve a full-surface bond. The material can also 'pucker' if compound curves are encountered. Please contact Megaware for specifics.
* Newer generation watercraft with exotic hull designs, make attaching a keel protector very challenging. The complex curves and contours make it almost impossible to achieve a full-surface bond. We do not recommend installing, nor can we warranty these types of applications. Older style hulls that are rounded or V shaped, work very well with the Megaware KeelGuard®.
